DANCING ARABS written by Ruggero Gabbai
DANCING ARABS is based on the widely praised novel by the young Arab-Israeli writer, Sayed Kashua. The semi-autobiographical story offers a uniquely human portrayal of a young man who grows up in an Arab village in Israel, and throughout his life, moves between two societies, becoming a stranger to both. In this adaptation, the main character develops a lasting friendship with a Jewish student he meets at the Jewish boarding school they both attend in Jerusalem. They become an integral part of each otheršs lives as they navigate their way through a complicated social and political environment. Despite the complex theme of dual identity and the many challenges of peaceful reconciliation, the story is told with an understated humor and self-deprecating wit. Lorenzo Minoli will produce and Ruggero Gabbai is slated to direct.
