Perhaps the most provocative of all biblical stories, SAMSON & DELILAH is a cautionary tale about lust, deception and betrayal. Starring Eric Thal as Samson and Elizabeth Hurley as Delilah, the film presents a timeless story of how one's inner strength and spirit can prevail against even the most daunting circumstances. Samson, a simple and gentle shepherd who possesses the strength of a titan, is legendary among the Israelite tribes. But when word of his super-human might reaches the Philistines, there is cause for concern and General Tariq, played with delightful villainy by Dennis Hopper, orders Samson's capture. After several failed attempts Tariq devises a new plan--to seduce Samson into a trap with the King's beautiful niece, Delilah, in order to find the source of his enormous strength. However, within moments of their meeting Delilah falls in love with Samson. Torn between her loyalty to him and to her people, she eventually makes a decision that seals the fate of her nation. Delilah's betrayal--in cutting Samson's hair--leads to his capture and enslavement. Blinded and imprisoned by the Philistines, Samson must draw upon a deep reservoir of inner spirituality that surprises even him and imbues him with new strength. Not above seeking revenge, through sheer force of will Samson brings down the massive Philistine temple-- and with it his enemies.
Airing on TNT in 1996, SAMSON & DELILAH was directed by Nicholas Roeg and written by Alan Scott. In addition to Eric Thal, Elizabeth Hurley and Dennis Hopper, the stellar supporting cast features Michael Gambon, Diana Rigg and Ben Becker.
